How Sunrise Children’s Hospital Supports the Whole Family
Here at Sunrise Children’s Hospital, our pediatrics specialists understand the stress that a hospitalization can place on a child and his or her family. Our Child Life Department seeks to ameliorate these challenges by working closely with families to provide services such as hospital orientation, coping education, sibling preparation, and emotional support.
At our children’s hospital, our Child Life Specialists have an in-depth understanding of children’s psychosocial needs. We’ll assess each child’s current knowledge about hospital experiences and use special, age-appropriate teaching tools to prepare youngsters for procedures. Patient education alone can help children experience reduced anxiety and a better overall hospital experience. However, our Child Life Specialists also help youngsters with coping strategies via age-appropriate activities. During your child’s hospitalization, he or she is invited to enjoy time in our playrooms, which are staffed by our fully trained volunteers. Your child can participate in story time, enjoy magic performances, or visit with our pet therapy dogs.
